Why they submitted this recipe:Every year, our son requests his favorite birthday dinner: our twist on the classic Hot Brown sandwich. We swap ham for roasted turkey and mayo for spicy mustard, then top it with a rich, bubbly sauce. It’s become a birthday tradition.
Ingredients
- 1 package Hawaiian rollsÌý
- 3 tablespoons spicy mustard, or DijonÌý
- 12 slices deli turkeyÌý
- 6 slices Gruyère cheeseÌý
- 1/2 cup butterÌý
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped onionÌý
- 1 teaspoon WorcestershireÌý
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Without separating rolls, cut in half horizontally. Arrange bottoms in a greased 11x14 or larger sized pan.
- Spread with mustard - top with turkey, bacon, Gruyère cheese - replace top half of rolls.
- In a small skillet, melt butter. Add onion and cook until tender, 1-2 minutes.Ìý
- Whisk in brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder. Cook and stir until sugar is dissolved. Drizzle over sandwiches.Ìý
- Let this marinate for 20-30 minutes.
- Cover and bake for 25 minutes.Ìý
- Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
